Cardiac rehabilitation is used to improve the health of patients with heart disease. It can also help patients who are recovering from a heart attack, as well as those who recently had heart surgery.
Benefits of a cardiac rehabilitation program can include reduced cardiac symptoms, better long-term survival, weight loss, improved cholesterol and triglyceride levels, improved blood pressure, lower blood sugar levels in diabetics and reduced stress.
The URMC Cardiac Rehabilitation Center provides complete cardiac rehabilitation in a center that helps you to feel safe and supported. Cardiac rehab is covered by most insurance plans, with the patient only responsible for any co-pay.
Cardiac rehab is important for individuals who have had any of the following:
Cardiac rehab works in phases:
Phase I. This phase begins in the hospital after a cardiac event, such as a heart attack or cardiac surgery. Phase I focuses on education, helping you to better understand heart disease and the steps you can take to improve your health.
Phase II. The next phase of your cardiac rehab begins when you leave the hospital. We design a customized program based on your health, your goals and your doctor's recommendations. We then supervise your exercise program at our facility and give you ongoing classes to help improve your health. Phase II typically lasts from 4 to 24 weeks.
The URMC Cardiac Rehab Phase II program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
The URMC Cardiac Rehab Program offers patients the most advanced cardiac rehab facility in the area. We also provide a staff that is completely dedicated and highly trained in the rehabilitation of heart patients.
